We’ve been bad…

Wow.

It has been nearly three months since I’ve blogged. I’m sorry guys – life is just super crazy hectic mad at the moment.

I have so many recipes, reviews and ideas that I need to post and promise I will get to them all as soon as possible.

There are a few wonderful restaurants that I need to write about – Coobs in Parkhurst and El Burro in Greenpoint for a start. Fantastic places with phenomenal food and great service.

Then I have a few lovely new products that I’m dying to tell you about. Again, the incredible El Burro’s range of chilli sauces. Black garlic. Strawberry daiquiri mixes. (Yes.)

New hot spots in Jozi, so many of them! Stanley Beer Yard. Three Marys.

Events coming up, and past events. Jozi Craft Beer Fest on the 4th of May.

SO MUCH TO TELL YOU ALL!

Coming soon…

Restaurant Review: Salvation Cafe

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The first time I walked into Salvation Cafe, I was pissed off. Someone had stolen my idea. The location, the decor, the atmosphere, the menu. It was all I had ever wanted.

In a rather sullen tone I ordered a juice from the friendly waiter. I drank it begrudgingly and slowly started to relax and enjoy myself. This place was superb. The location, the decor, the atmosphere, the menu. All of it superb. Whoever this little gremlin was that had been inside of my head and stolen my ideas, they were smart. They pulled it off. I loved it.

I must admit that I only ever eat one thing at Salvation Cafe. I don’t know what it is – perhaps the menu is ever so slightly long for my ADD blonde brain to focus on or maybe I’m just an Eggs Benedict slut. Salvation’s eggs are perfectly poached, the hollandaise is lemony and silky and they usually top it with baby herbs that have the most subtle earthy flavour which I love.

Recently I visited Salvation with my bestie (who is pregnant) and we had the Benedict while catching up on life. Twenty minutes later we both tucked into a milkshake. (I’m blaming the post-brunch milkshake on Preggers and her little Marshmallow.) I’m a milkshake snob and even asked the waiter if it was made properly or “made with that shitty syrup”. He assured me that they didn’t use ‘shitty syrup’ in the kitchen and commented on the lovely presentation of their milkshakes. The man knew what he was talking about. They came in glass bottles – simple, yet super effective and only adding to the genius that is Salvation.

I think the fact that the restaurant is in one of Jozi’s best spots (44 Stanley in Auckland Park) adds to its charm. There are people everywhere shopping up a storm. The place is buzzing.

The service is subtle and efficient. The owners waft from table to table being attentive without being too ‘in your face’. It’s peaceful. It’s one of my favourites and you absolutely must go.

Promise I’ll try something else on the menu the next time I go.

P.S – The guys at Salvation were lovely enough (of course) to send me stunning photographs since I am incapable of taking my camera anywhere with me…Thanks!
